MEET THE FOUNDER :
Kim Anderson is the founder of Gifts of Love from Above(GOLFA). Kim is responsible for the vision, strategy and fundraising efforts for GOLFA as it expands across the country.
"Gifts of Love from Above is my hearts passion for the children whose parent or guardian was killed by senseless gun violence and who don't understand the grief they may feel"
Kim has always enjoyed charitable work and had a drive and dedication for the causes for which she supported. This passion and dedication took a different turn when in 2011 her passion to help others had now hit close to home. Kim has always had a heart to give to others but never thought that losing one of the most important person in her life would launch her into action. She will now give back in a different way.
On Oct 3, 2011 her family's lives were shattered when the youngest of seven children was shot and killed. The part that broke her heart even more were the children her brother left behind along with his first unborn grandchild that he would never have the chance to meet. My brother Marcus was a loving father , brother, son and friend and his loss was a major impact to those he loved and who truly loved him.
Outside of doing volunteer work for the community through other local organizations, senseless gun violence and their victims was never something that connected to her. After the death of her brother she was now driven to a different kind of cause, one that was closer to her heart. Kim volunteers her time as a mentor to children who grieve the death of a parent and/or family member as a grief facilitator at a local bereavement center. Kim even works closely with a grassroots organization to help end senseless gun violence in our communities.
It is the hope of the GOLFA organization to remember the innocence of the children who are left behind to cope with the death of a parent. Through the development of outreach programs like GOLFA Grief Care Center ( in development) and referral services for Grief Counseling the organization also uses funds raised to provide grants to help with unexpected funeral cost.
"No child should have to be impacted this way and it is GOLFA's vision to bring a smile back to a grieving child".
